Haiti Appeal to DAFC fans

Update 11th February 2010

Thanks to the excellent generosity of Dunfermline and Celtic fans ,staff and directors £1.403.91p was raised in Sundays Haiti Appeal .
Our team of James Jarvie, Charlie Seamen , Dan Lyth and Kain Ramsay arrived back this afternoon having delivered a second ton of medicines .
Already medicines and food supplies are arriving at Lemonaids headquarters in Garvock to be packed on Monday night ready for Justin Dowds , Ian Catto and Compassion uk director to fly out on 20th February .
The team were pleased with some improvements but shocked at how many bodies were still around .
James Jarvie was shocked at the conditions of the beds etc .
James an oil rig welding inspector took measurements so our follow up team could build new beds for all the orphans in March .
The team all slept in the gardens under mosquito nets fearing further earthquakes .
One tiny orphan rescued after been buried for 3 days had not spoken a word or showed emotion was clapping and smiling when the team gave her toys and ballons .
One small lad they picked up in the truck had lost his whole family and was starving and thirsty . He went in his journey thirst quenched and a huge back of rice .
Hospitalty guests at EEP showed great concern and asked great questions like how can you guarantee the money doesn't go astray and aid is getting thro .
Lemonaid personally purchase and carry all supplies directly to the emergency clinics and hospitals .
Three local nurses have organised a valentines charity event in Kelty club on Saturday .
All around the country donations are flowing in .
We couldn't find a Haitian locally to help with Collection and Solomaine Bamba stepped in to help with collections .
Sol asked if he could keep the Lemonaid Haiti Appeal vest and we agreed on the condition he would wear it at the world cup.
After the initial " spasm " help from teams around the world the long term rebuilding of houses for orphans and hospitals are needed .
We already have the hospital drawings done and will start the work in March .
On going discussions on building orphan homes are next on the agenda .
Dunfermline Football Club and fans have taken a lead in this country in pulling out all the stops to support aid relief to Haiti .
Sepp Blatter is also keen to see clubs respond to this disaster .
We are making efforts to contact the Haitian FA to lend support to them in these terrible times .
Last year my son Aaron ran a 2 hour football tournament in Haitis hot sun for 16 teams of six a side .
16 teams of 16 players each showed up and the tournament lasted 10 hours .
Linesmen used branches instead of flags and used them for ground control also .The kids are football crazy and further trips from local coaches will go a long way to put a smile back on their faces .
We are still trying to trace the group of orphans we sponsor and hope to hear news soon .

Update 22nd January 2010

Congratulations to Dunfermline Athletic on deservedly winning their cup appeal .
Put a smile on our faces after a long heart rendering day in Haiti .
Seeing millions of people on the streets with no where to go and nothing to go for is unbelievable. Seeing 2 more bodies pulled from the rubble and carrying a young man to the hospital with a broken back was hard to take. The haunting fact that we observed today was the total absence of children. Where have they all gone? Three more of the " Compassion " schools we visited today were flattened. The three children my wife and i sponsor have not been seen or heard of since the earthquake. Our emergency clinic was performing surgery all day with 4 new doctors arriving tonight from America to help the weary staff We wait anxiously to see if they are still alive !!!

22 day old baby just pulled from the rubble ALIVE

Jimmy Dowds latest update from Haiti

Good news a two year old was rescued yesterday and brought to our friends clinic and after half of its hand was amputated - its life was saved . But the very bad news was that 2,000 children in one school alone were crushed to death. There are thousands of amazing people working like crazy to save lives. We will visit both places and main disaster areas tomorrow. The place is ten times worse than I had expected.

We successfully delivered three quarters of a ton of life saving medicines all put together by local Dunfermline doctors, nurses and pharmacists. Thousands of dollars in cash also delivered to buy emergency supplies

BREAKING NEWS - Another disaster is about to hit Haiti in days as Tetanus is likely to kill tens of thousands of people as there is NO tetanus medication on the Island - Keep an eye on the news - this places needs all the help the world can give.

Am meeting now with the main doctors running the emergency clinic strategising the best way to use supplies.
