From age six to ten played his football at Kennoway and moved on to Wemyss United before joining Dunfermline at U11 level. Released by Dunfermline after one season Jamie returned to Kennoway to play in Bob McPhail's U12s but returned to the Pars at U13 level.  Brought on by Eric Archibald in the U15s, Jamie played several games for U19s in season 2009-10 before stepping up with a full time contract.
