The draw for the Third Round of the Co-operative Insurance Cup was made at Hampden Park on Tuesday 31st August.  Pars reward for beating Arbroath and Clyde is a Third Round tie against Rangers at Ibrox.  The sides haven't met since January 2007 when a Charlie Adam goal gave Rangers a 1-0 at East End Park.  Dunfermline have not played at Ibrox since November 2006 when they lost 2-0 and they have not won at Ibrox since 27th April 1972.

All SPL ties include Celtic v Inverness Caley Thistle and Kilmarnock v Hibs.

In the event of a draw after normal time, extra time of 30 minutes (i.e. 15 minutes each way) will take place and thereafter, if necessary, kicks from the Penalty Mark will be taken in accordance with the Rules laid down by The International Association Board.

For the Third Round, the five clubs, which are participating in the UEFA Club Competitions together with the eleven clubs qualifying from the Second Round, will then be inserted into a ballot. This Round will be "seeded" with the clubs occupying the eight highest positions at the end of the preceding season being "seeded". These clubs will play a single tie on the ground of the first named club. The eight winning clubs will qualify to play in the Fourth Round.
