Jim Jefferies first signing as Manager of Dunfermline Athletic, Bernardo was a very experienced 32 year old Spanish goalkeeper. Bernardo has also played for a number of other Spanish clubs including Oviedo, Siero, Amurrio, Orihuela, Deportivo Alaves, Tenerife (on loan) and Recreativo.

He became the eighth European goalkeeper in Dunfermline's history but the first Spanish one following in the footsteps of Geir Karlsen, Bent Martin, Hans Segers, Guido van de Kamp, Zoran Lemajic, Kris Mampaey, Marco Ruitenbeek and Dorus de Vries.
