Steven Leslie attended Kirkcaldy High School and got involved in football first at Woodside Boys Club in Glenrothes before moving on to Kingdom Thistle in Thornton.  He had a year away from them with Raith Rovers at U14 level but it was from Kingdom that Steven joined Dunfermline U17s. The striker was selected for Scotland Boys in 2008.

On graduating from U19s Steven accepted a full time contract for season 2011-12.  Loaned out at the start of the season to East of Scotland League side, Tynecastle FC and then to junior side Oakley United in February 2012.
