On Wednesday 23rd July, the Berts welcomed a Dunfermline Athletic XI to Gardiners Park for a testimonial match for the long-serving Andy Barratt. Andy has been with the club for 10 years and was awarded this fixture against the club he supports.

Lochgelly might only have one Andy Barratt but their side included two Stevie Browns. New Brown lined up at left back while the versatile long serving Brown was to operate on the right wing.  The Pars fielded a young side with Ross Drummond and keeper Ryan Goodfellow being the eldest players at the age of 20. No.10 was worn by trialist Neil Duffy.

First danger in seven minutes came from a Ross Drummond free kick sent in from the right, that earned only a corner but when Scott Mercer delivered that from left James THOMAS headed home.  It took just three more minutes before the lead was extended. Slackness in the Albert defence gifted a chance to Gavin McMILLAN and he put the ball away well with a shot that lobbed the keeper and dipped below the bar. 0-2

With SFA linesmen at Gardiners Park for this match, the home side fell foul of the offside trap but when Andy WATT ran on to a through ball in 24 minutes he was able to open Albert's account with an accurate shot low to the bottom left. 1-2

Neither keeper was tested for a spell but Paul Duncan's shot in 37 minutes went close as it clear the bar.  Dunfermline were then fortunate with a debatable offside decision against Watt before play switched to the other end and McClair and Thomas played pinball as defenders blocked their attempts. The keeper Roy Ness then saved a good low shot from Drummond and second corners followed with Declan O'Kane slicing a good opportunity at the second wide right.

The visitors were out of the traps sharpish for the second half forcing a corner within 15 seconds and then Duffy and Crossan having good efforts. Lochgelly responded with Watt coming close and then Andy Barratt powering a free kick  from 25 yards over the crossbar.

There were a number of substitutions that disrupted the flow of play but in 69 minutes a long through ball from the halfway line saw the young sub Albert keeper come out.  He missed the ball under pressure from Finn Graham and ORRU's pass ended up in the net. 1-3

Even younger players came on as subs for John Potter's team - Stuart Morrison and Scott Sutherland replacing Ross Drummond and PJ Crossan but it was Lochgelly sub Andy Wilson who created the chance. He fought through the Pars defence but couldn't finish when in on Goodfellow.

The substitutions had allowed Orru the opportunity to get up the left side and he was unlucky when no one was on the end of his dangerous cross.

Andy Barratt started his football career as a nine year old at Comrie Colts, played with Valleyfield Colts and Aberdour Hearts before joining Lochgelly U18s for one season and going to Kelty Hearts U21s. He joined Lochgelly Albert two seasons later.

Stevie O'Donnell was the manager who signed him for Lochgelly. This was to be the first of his seven managers at Gardiners Park. Stevie Kirk, then Ross Miller, Terry McGuire, Ross Kinnell, Stevie Clark, James Watt and now Craig Ness. He has played in every position apart from striker and keeper. Beating Kelty Hearts in the Scottish Cup last season he rates as one of his best days and there have been several spectacular goals from distance and from free kicks that have been very special.

Andy has been a loyal and consistent member of the Berts team over the years, and it is especially appropriate that his testimonial should be against the club he has always supported and with which all his family have strong connections with. His mother, Christine is one of the organisers of the Young Pars and his sister Kirsty won the competition to design Sammy the Tammy. His wife Donna, sister in law Nichola and even his mother in law, Lorna, all worked at East End Park in the past.
