Andy Geggan Post Stenny

Monday, 17th Nov 2014

"The boys want to start every week but if they are going out and not scoring goals something has to change.

Even though the Pars captain displayed his usual calm post match composure,Andy Geggan claimed that he was an angry man after the 1-0 defeat at the hands of Stenhousemuir on Saturday:-

"We have not taken our chances and I think that we have to start killing off teams. As soon as it went 1-0 it was just a scrap to try and get that goal. Don't get me wrong Stenhousemuir stuck to their jobs and made it hard for us. With the chances we had, we should have been sticking them away."

Dunfermline had started displaying their like of the astro playing surface and were fully in charge for the opening quarter of the game. Andy praised the pitch that they had played on only a fortnight ago in the Scottish Cup:-

"We enjoy playing on this surface, we have been training on similar all week and on Thursday we were flying in training. I thought that we would give them a right good doing today, it is just one of those things but it happens every Saturday. Everybody needs to stick together and just get on with it."

Stenhousemuir came more and more into the game and the woodwork kept them out three times before the interval:-

"I think we were a wee bit lucky there but they stuck to their jobs and got their chances. Obviously it came off the woodwork but it is all about us and we should be finishing our chances. The boys on the pitch should be sticking them away.

"Moffat knows himself that header in the last five minutes should have scored. It was a bad miss. Once he gets his confidence up he will start banging in goals but he needs to do that quick."

After four league matches without a win Jim Jefferies has promised changes in his team selection and his captain believed that his boss is right:-

"During the week the under 20s played and a few of the first team boys were playing in it. Ryan Thomson and the boys beat Dundee 5-0 so we are all under pressure. After defeat at Stenny there could be changes for next week."

Performances and play can look so good at times but Jefferies team is just not producing the goals that are needed to take three points.

"We are playing well but finding that final product is hard. The boys want to start every week but if they are going out and not scoring goals something has to change."

The travelling support made their displeasure heard at the end of the match, some of the players sank to the ground at the final whistle and they all trooped off with their heads down. Andy added:-

"Obviously the fans just want goals; we are trying our best but they have a right to boo that way. We are a full time team and we should be beating Stenhousemuir. These things happen in football, football is a crazy game."
