Andy was warned about pre season

New signing Andy Geggan will be happy to play anywhere, as long as he gets a game.

ANDY GEGGAN quotes

Andy Geggan
has been a part time footballer for six years but gave up his day job last Friday to become full time at Dunfermline. He narrated his football journey exclusively to the website:-

"I left Livingston and went to Dumbarton for five years. It was Gerry McCabe who took me there and I was their longest serving player at one point but I got the chance to go to Ayr United and couldn't knock this chance to come here."

Paddy Boyle is the only member of the squad that he knew before coming to Dunfermline but undeterred, Andy claims that he is really looking forward to the season since depending upon just who makes up that league, it might be a rather different First Division from last.

NEW BOYS

Andy began his football career at right back but moved into midfield to get more involved in the game.

"I am a defensive midfielder but I like to attack as well. I will be happy to play anywhere, as long as I get a game. Last season I scored seven or eight goals.

"I played in the First Division last year, we did well with Ayr getting to the semi final of the Scottish Communities Cup. Mark Roberts wanted me to sign but I couldn't knock back the move to Dunfermline. I have started full time football at a big club and I am enjoying it so far."

As far as Andy is concerned it beats working all day, getting home at 5.30pm, then going off to training at Petershill in Glasgow with Ayr and not returning home until after 10.00pm. It has not gone unnoticed by Andy that there is going to be a lot of competition for places in midfield:-

"That is just part and parcel of football. You need to challenge the other boys in the team even though they are your pals. If they do get in front of you, all you can do is work hard."

And there is no doubt that hard work is what Andy will experience in pre season at Dunfermline. A previous charge under JJ at Kilmarnock was Andy's boss at Ayr:-

"Before I came here Mark Roberts wished me all the best and when I asked him what he meant by that, he said 'your gaffer's pre season is absolutely brutal'.  I have got on well so far with my new gaffer although it is still early days."
