Barrowman says nice to see you

"We know that if we finish above Dunfermline then we won't be far away!"

- - Listen to this Andy Barrowman interview

Andy Barrowman was pleased to meet lots of old acquaintances after the match at Cappielow on Saturday, especially since his new club were on the winning side. The 29 year old striker joined Morton in July but after incurring injury in his first competitive match, the Petrofac Training Cup v Spartans he has been sidelined until last week. He explained:-

"When I got to the first game I had not missed a day of pre season but then in the cup game, my hamstring went. That was been frustrating but I am glad to be back with two games and two wins in a row."

Morton are viewed as Dunfermline's prime opponents in the race for the League One title and Andy feels that the wins over Airdrieonians and Dunfermline are key steps in trying to make Cappielow a 'fortress'.

"It is good when the fans get behind us, there is a good atmosphere here and always has been when I have come to play here as a member of the away team. We need to win games and get that bit of consistency.

"We are a young team but we have some good players so we will see what happens. Today is probably the best that we have played - probably our best performance of the season so far. We were right at it from the first whistle and never let it drop. It needed to be because Dunfermline are a good team and anything less and we wouldn't have got the three points."

Morton and Dunfermline are treated by the rest of the League One clubs as the big two, the two main contenders. Andy says that is not the kind of talk of the dressing room but notes:-

"We know that if we finish above Dunfermline then we won't be far away! Of course it was a big game, it is three points but that's all it is and we go again next week."

Jim Jefferies conceded that his team got what they deserved and Barra' thought that Morton had been very good:-

"I maybe should have scored before we did. I had a good chance and another couple where we could have got another goal and gone in more than one up. Second half we knew Dunfermline were going to come at us. I have been in a few of Jim Jefferies half time team talks when we have been getting beat, so I knew what was coming, we were aware of that.

"The boys came out for the second half and started exactly how we had finished the first. I didn't really see the penalty incident, I was too busy marking in the box but we certainly next protested so that kind of tells you all at times."

Dunfermline were handed a lifeline with Ross Millen's 72nd minute equaliser but just four minutes later Barrowman had a major part in providing the match winner:-

"It was just a long ball into the box that I got of the end of. I just whipped it in as I saw bodies coming running in. I just put it into an area and thankfully Pepper got on the end of it. It was a good header from Connor."

The Morton striker lingered a while in the warm down talking to players he had abruptly left in April 2013 when Dunfermline went into administration. He joined Dundee but it was with Livingston that he made 22 appearances last season, he added:-

"Obviously it is nice to see them and this is the first time that I have played against them since I left them. They had a good bunch of boys at the time. Nice to see them and nice to get the win!"
