Craig Robertson Post Aberdeen

Saturday, 26th Aug 2006

"We didn't think we would get twenty minutes out of Scott but he wanted to try,

Craig Robertson took the post match media conference:-

"We are very disappointed. Although Aberdeen had most of the pressure and most of the ball I didn't think they were going to break us down. On the break I thought we could nick one."

Craig responded sharply to the suggestion that the loss of Scott Wilson with a hamstring injury midway through the second half gave Aberdeen the opening they needed:-

"Let's get the situation right; Scott shouldn't have started today, Phil McGuire shouldn't have started today, Aaron Labonte shouldn't have started today, Andrew Tod shouldn't have started today. Because of the injury situation we are, all credit to them and the team that played. You cannot praise them enough for their spirit and their commitment to the club.

Scott Wilson lasted 67 minutes

"We didn't think we would get twenty minutes out of Scott but he wanted to try, Phil McGuire had a pain killing injection after the warm up to play. We cannot fault the boys, just one mistake cost us the game."

Craig put down any suggestion that Dunfermline went to Pittodrie looking for a draw:-

"The tactic was to win the game. We had no central strikers available to us; we thought we had one yesterday but I will refrain from talking about that. When we kept the ball we gave Aberdeen problems."

The Aberdeen goal was a mistake:-

"We defended the ball really well all day when it came into the area but we did not defend that one. It wasn't the best of balls but we didn't defend it."

Andy Tod
Andy Tod tried hard for someone who shouldn't have played!

Aberdeen Manager Jimmy Calderwood was delighted to take the win on the back of the defeat at Firhill on Tuesday and the death of two club stalwarts, Peter Simpson and Sandy Finnie:-

"We got the break in the end and I think we deserved it. They put all their big lads up and it was always going to be very difficult. It is a shame for Dunfermline, they have so many injuries, when Jim gets all his players back it will be a bit easier for him."

Asked if any transfer activity had been progressed JC said:-

"No I have been too busy with the game today to be honest, when there is anything to tell you then I'll tell you."
