Dorus de Vries Post Hearts

Saturday, 3rd Feb 2007

"Beat Rangers, beat Hearts, beat Celtic why not? Bring them on."

Dorus de Vries

Dorus de Vries' saves undoubtedly kept Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup tie against Hearts, and allowed Scott Wilson's 93rd minute goal to be sufficient to see the Pars into the hat for the next round:-

"I am absolutely delighted with the performance and the result. That is what you dream of as a goalie against bigger opponents - get out a couple of saves and hopefully you will win. What better than win in the last couple of seconds with a great header and a great assist from Adam as well.  It was a good goal from "Dinger" (Scott Wilson)."

Dorus was asked what was it with Dunfermline in the Scottish Cup?

"It is unbelievable. There was not much in the game.  We were thinking at half time, 0-0 not much chances for both teams.  We were hoping, let's go on this, hopefully we will get a good chance and score.

"We started under a bit of pressure in both halves. A couple of corners in the first half and if you get under the pressure, the pressure gets bigger on Hearts because they are the opponent.  They have to win and the pressure is on them and not on Dunfermline.  We took advantage of it in the last minute."

Dorus would not worry about drawing Celtic in the next round:-

"Beat Rangers, beat Hearts, beat Celtic why not? Bring them on."

Can this boost the league form?

"You need to get a break.  The team works hard in training, the atmosphere and the will to perform is there.  In these kind of games we regain some confidence.  We did that today and hopefully we can bring that to the competition because that is the most important thing for Dunfermline at the moment, not the Cup."

Asked what he thought of Hearts goalkeeping selection, Dorus replied:-

"The situation is terrible. Since I have come to Scotland I have been a fan of Gordon - he has great abilities, he is a gifted goalie and to see him not playing, and the reasons why, it's probably politics - it is not good for him and not good for Scottish football.

"We thought that he would start the game but Roddy McKenzie told us that he had spoken to the goalie coach and he said that he wasn't playing.  We were thinking that's unbelievable, how can such a great goalie be left out.

"In Holland there is no chance of that happening.  I know football is all about business and politics but I have never seen it like this before."
