Dorus de Vries post Celtic

Saturday, 16th Sep 2006

"We try as a team to get as many chances as we can but it was not possible today."

"It is a hell of a game, Celtic away. As a topscorer that is one game to live for in front of 60,000 people. They are a big club but that is what you train for. It was a good game but unfortunately we lost one goal. It was a pity because especially in the second half, we didn't create many chances but with a little bit of luck we should have deserved at least a point."

Dorus de Vries

Dorus agreed that Dunfermline can be expected to attack a bit more against Rangers in Wednesday night's CIS Insurance Cup:-

"We are playing at home, it is a Cup and a completely different game. Rangers are playing three games in a week, they had the UEFA Cup game last Wednesday, they have a game this weekend and then away to us on Wednesday so it will be a tough game for them and we are going to do everything in our effort to go through to the next round.

"After Man United it was a big game for Celtic, the Champions League is big stakes for them and we hoped to take some advantage from it but unluckily we didn't.

"For a goalkeeper these are the games; I had a couple of them in Holland also against Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord. Those were great games but the competition is long and there are another ten teams. When we must compete against them, as a goalie you have to be there also."

Dorus was asked if the way Dunfermline tackled the Celtic match was similar to those deployed in Holland against the big three.

"I think the tactics were OK today, it depends how tired they are after playing in the European Cup. Sometimes you can get an advantage by pressing down on them. The only pity was that we did not create many chances but defensively it was a really good game.

"We try as a team to get as many chances as we can but it was not possible today."

Was Dorus disappointed to lose the goal at a setpiece?

"It is frustrating of course but every goal that you get against you as a goalie is frustrating. I had a feeling in the second half that Celtic were running out of ideas. They only tried to put on attacks from the sides and with cross balls. It was the only ideas that they had, I thought they were better and was a bit disappointed about that.

"Maybe it was a good effort from our team with good defending from Stevie Crawford and Jim Hamilton back, it was a great effort as a team. If you look on the bright side the defence that started upfront was incredible."
