Geggan will stress importance of Derby

Friday, 19th Aug 2016

"We will be ready to go and I will be telling the boys before the game how important this game is for the fans."

Back in March 2013, Andy Geggan was the last Pars player to score a league goal against Raith Rovers. That was just Andy`s second goal for Dunfermline and it came just ten days before the club went into administration. He recalled the goal and set himself an ambition to be the scorer of the winning goal on Saturday:-

"It was a tap in after the keeper saved but it seems like ten years ago. I am confident that I can score again. I am up for corners so hopefully I can be the last one to score on Saturday as well."

The return of the Rovers v Pars Derby is welcomed by fans and players alike. Andy is looking forward to an exciting atmosphere and similarly as vocal as those backing the team at Easter Road last Saturday:-

"The fans give you a lift, we got that lift on Saturday and obviously both sets of fans don`t like each other at Raith Rovers. That will make it a bit tastier and any challenge that goes in gets the fans up for it. We will be up for it too."

Raith have signed experienced players like Bobby Barr and Declan McManus and Andy recalled matches against the pair in League One:-

"We have played against these players before, it doesn`t matter if it was not in the Championship. We are more than capable of going there and getting a victory. It doesn`t really matter about the experience, we will be ready to go and I will be telling the boys before the game how important this game is for the fans."

Saturday`s match against Hibs completed all the grounds in the Scottish Leagues for Geggs and since he has continued as team captain this season, leading the side out in bigger stadiums with larger crowds makes it all the more significant and more enjoyable.

The IRN-BRU cup draw however has sent the Pars back to Glebe Park, Andy felt that it was a decent draw for the club:-

"We just wanted to avoid the fixtures that meant big travel. We are confident going into every game so we will be confident for this cup tie."
