Good times at Gayfield remembered
Friday, 24th Jul 2015Josh Falkingham:- "They are a great club and I only had good times there."
Josh Falkingham spent two seasons at Arbroath; 2010-11 and 2011-12. During that time he made 73 appearances and scored 17 goals for the Angus side. So it is with much affection that Josh returns to Gayfield on Saturday. Speaking exclusively to this website Josh recalled some of his memories:-
"I had great times up there. It feels quite a long time ago really in terms of football years - this is my fourth season now at Dunfermline. Obviously I have been back up there a couple of times when we first got relegated. They are a great club and I only had good times there.
"I got my first real taste of first team football up there. I was playing in a great team, we were successful and I am looking forward to going back up there. I don't think there is one player left from my time there. That is how it goes in part time football, there is a lot of chopping and changing. It will be the people behind the scenes - the Board doesn't change as much as the team does."
The 24 year old who came through the ranks of the Leeds United youth system is keen to get the new season underway so that last season can be forgotten completely.
"A new manager has come in with different ideas. Don't get me wrong, we are all striving for the same goal - to win football matches - and it has all been gearing up to now. The preparation has been good and we have worked on different formations that we could maybe play this season.
"Pre season has been tough. We have been back a little bit earlier than we expected and that has made it quite a long pre season. It has been good and when you come in for the first day your thoughts are always on when is your first game. You can't wait to get there.
"We have had good tests, good performances which is pleasing. We didn't get a result against Hibs but it was good to gauge how we are and I thought we came through that fairly well. It felt good fitness wise, strong and the new signings have all settled in well."
Ben Richards-Everton has become Josh's new flat mate and the Yorkshireman has enjoyed showing him the sights around Dunfermline, albeit Ben sees them from a slightly higher viewpoint. Josh described the build up:-
"All the boys are buzzing to get the season underway and get into the weekly routine."
The friendly was disappointing in as much as Jason Talbot got red carded, misses Saturday's match and the team had to play more than three quarters of the match with only ten men. Josh took the positive out of that:-
"It ended up a better test for us than it was for Hibs. You can't do anything about it, you just get on with it. For fans to watch it wasn't as good as eleven v eleven but we ended up working out. You don't often get games where you can practice playing with just ten men.
"I thought we worked it well and tried to stop them as much as we could. I felt that we were always a danger on the counterattack and Faiss proved that with the goal. It was a great exercise for us."
