Husband promises better

Sunday, 19th Aug 2012

East End Park debut ends in defeat but Stephen is confident for the season ahead.

Stephen Husband v Partick Thistle

Stephen Husband nearly became a super sub on his East End Park debut. The 21 year old signed from Blackpool for this season felt that the team did not play to their full potential but he was glad to get involved in the game when his chance beckoned:-

"The substitution wasn't really expected, if anybody I thought it might be for Josh Falkingham I'd be coming on for because he had a touch of tonsillitis but it ended up being Jordan McMillan and hopefully his ankle is not too bad. He had it on ice when I went in so hopefully he will be OK on Monday."

Stephen's introduction 37 minutes into the game almost came with instant success. The sub was played through one on one with the Partick keeper but Scott Fox won out.

"It was a rush of blood to the head having just come on and I almost got in behind but played it a bit too heavy."

Scottish First Division football is new to the Kelty born player having already experience with Livingston in Division Three and Cowdenbeath in Division Two but he thought that Partick Thistle fought well against the Pars:-

"We maybe never matched them too much in the first half but in the second half, we battled away and maybe could have done a little better in the final third. Partick were the favourites to win the league, so if that is what we are up against we have just got to put it together and I am sure as the season goes on we will come on and do better than that. I do not think we played to our full potential today.

"We are a new bunch of boys getting to know each other so hopefully the sharpness comes and we will start scoring goals again. It is only the second game of the season but I am sure that we have the players there to do it, we have the creativity. Today was maybe an off day with inconsistency, hopefully we can brush up on that in our next game and get a few goals like we did at Cowdenbeath."

Saturday's substitution was a straight forward like for like with Stephen taking over in central midfield which is his preferred position.

"You play where you are asked and do what you are told; that's the type of guy I am and if the gaffer wants to play me there, or wherever he wants to play me I will play there."
