Kirk Post Rangers

Monday, 13th Feb 2012

"We managed to take the lead and we were maybe a little disappointed with the way we played after that."

Andy Kirk

Andy Kirk was disappointed with the 4-1 defeat to Rangers but he stressed that a player is disappointed every time they get beat.

"It was maybe a game that nobody expected us to win. You are playing Rangers and they are challenging for the league while we are at the other end of the table trying to survive. They are a stronger side than we are and probably they deserved the win."

The 4-1 score line possibly flattering to Rangers but Andy felt that his side had chances here and there that you have to take against the big teams.

"If you don't take your chances then when they get theirs they tend to punish you but we can take confidence from it because the performance has been better in recent weeks. It is a big big game for us next week (at home to Inverness Caley Thistle) and we must prepare for that."

Dunfermline 1 Rangers 0 - Andy Kirk in 16th minute

Andy opened the scoring in 16 minutes back it was thoroughly deserved after coming desperately close just moments before:-

"Davie (Graham) has had a tremendous run and a great shot that came off the post. It came out to the edge of the box and I was coming in late, it was bobbling away because it was not a great surface so I went to sidefoot it across and it was cleared off the line. After that it was a great ball in from Paddy Boyle and I just took a wee gamble at the back post and I arrived there to put my foot on it."

The Pars lead lasted only eight minutes and Andy was very aware of the kind of pressure that the Old Firm can put you under in such circumstances:-

"Rangers and Celtic always keep chipping away at you and you have got to be on your toes, got to be on your game constantly. Switch off for a second and their good players will punish you. We managed to take the lead and we were maybe a little disappointed with the way we played after that."

Andy Kirk v Rangers

The pitch was obviously the same for both sides but Andy described it as having the chance of taking the ball bobble:-

"You just need to keep your eye on it and concentrate. It is struggling at the minute, we would all love it to be perfect but we just have to get on with it."

Next Saturday it is Terry Butcher's side who will come to East End Park and hopefully the home team will for once come out on top:-

"Everybody at this Club will be out to get the result next week. We will be doing everything that we can in training and we will take confidence from the Rangers game, we have been playing better recently and a home win has to come sooner rather than later for us."
