Liam Buchanan Laments

Sunday, 19th Feb 2012

"The chance fell nicely and I maybe got over it too much and it just went over the bar.

Liam Buchanan was kicking himself after missing the opportunity to lift Dunfermline off the foot of the SPL table with a header just minutes from the end. He claimed that he would beat himself up about it all weekend:-

"The chance fell nicely and I maybe got over it too much and it just went over the bar. You feel like you have let the boys down a wee bit. With the boys working so hard, I came off the bench and got a chance like that - you have to take it. It is just one of those things, on another day it goes in."

Nick Ross' equaliser cancelled out Joe Cardle's opener on the stroke of half time and Liam's header could have brought about the Pars first home win since May last year.

"When a chance like that comes to a striker in the box you really have to take it and get the hoodoo off you about not having a home win this season. I will keep trying to put myself in those positions and keep trying to get on crosses like that.

L???iam Buchanan misses a late header in Clydesdale Bank SPL game between Dunfermlin???e Athletic and Inverness CT at East End Park

"Sometimes you come off the pitch having scored the winner, Saturday was a different story. Inverness worked hard, they worked for the 90 minutes and didn't make it easy for us. We did well to limit them to just a few chances, I don't think they had many. They had spells of possession but clear cut chances I don't think they had many of.

"It is fact that we have not won at home but they don't go into games thinking 'another home game'. I don't think it is an issue with them. No matter where we play we go out to win the match. We'd like to nail it to stop people asking the question about it; if we could get that first home win we'd hope to kick on from there and win more at home."

Liam ruled out the difficult East End Park surface as a reason for their lack of form at home:-

"It is the same for both teams, if you look at the park then you are looking for excuses. You just have to adapt to however it is."

Getting a draw and not a win against Caley Thistle meant that the Pars stayed level on points with Hibs who even after their 5-0 defeat to Celtic on Sunday remain four goal ahead of the Pars on goal difference. Liam expressed his disappointment that Dunfermline hadn't managed to jump up to eleventh but he has a quick solution:-

"We want to get three points as often as we can this season. We could have put more pressure on Hibs had we won but we didn't and we just have to go on to Parkhead on Wednesday and get the three points!"
