Livvy youth lines up v Lions
Friday, 7th Dec 2012Andy Geggan was three years at Livingston then Dumbarton and Ayr before becoming a Pars ever present.
On Saturday Andy Geggan returns to the club where he started his football career. Speaking exclusively to the website he revealed that he had captained their Under 19s at one stage and that he had been on the playing staff when that club had faced its problems off the park:-
"I left school and went to Livingston for three years. When they got into financial problems they got rid of most of the youth team; from there I went to Dumbarton."
Andy enjoyed his time at the West Lothian club even though it was a period that saw many managers come and go - Marcio Maximo Barcellos, Davie Hay, Allan Preston, Alec Clelland, Richard Gough and Paul Lambert. But Andy also got to know players who went on to play in England and at international level, the likes of Robert Snodgrass and Graham Dorrans.
The 25 year old who joined Dunfermline in the summer from Ayr United has been an ever present for the Pars and the game against his old club will be his 18th appearance. He was in midfield when Dunfermline inflicted a 4-0 win over Livingston on 22nd September but is sure that Saturday will not be as easy as that turned out:-
"This will be a totally different game. John Hughes was their manager then but they have been doing better since he left. Now I am like a utility man, I don't know what day it is - one week I turn up and I am playing right back and then back in midfield the next. I enjoyed being back there last week.
"We knew after the last time that the game at Partick would be a hard one but we knew that it wouldn't be like the last game. Getting Stephen Jordan back was a big help and shaped the team up better. We got back to our normal play again and we were buzzing at getting a 1-0 win."
That of course was courtesy of a crucial Paul Gallacher penalty save, one that Andy was particularly pleased about:-
"I was delighted. The boy turned me quick and quite well but I thought if he gets in he will score. I just kept my leg out but Gall has a great record of saving penalties."
The final 15 minutes were nerve racking both on and off the pitch given the narrow advantage, the Pars passing over chances to increase their lead and Partick piling on the pressure.
"I felt any chance I get I am just going to hit it away. We brought pressure on ourselves by not taking good chances that came our way. At the end of the day we got the result and are in the next round. I'll take either Hamilton or Dumbarton and hope to get a good run."
