Luke Johnston

LUKE JOHNSTON

DOB: 03.09.93
Position: Central Defender

Loaned from Dundee United. Luke would prefer to play further up the park but he has been told that he is better used as a defender.

A Fifer who was brought up in Glenrothes and played for Woodside Boys Club. Luke emigrated to Australia as a 14 year old where he was recruited by the youth team of Perth Glory. Perth Glory's manager was former Pars skipper, Ian Ferguson and Robbie Fowler was a team mate.

"I enjoyed it there but I came back because the passion for football is so much greater over here. That's why I came back, there are more chances to make it here."

He returned to Scotland in November 2011 and was signed to a short term contract with United in January 2012, and went on to appear a number of times for the Under 19 and Youth teams before his contract was extended at the start of the 2012-13 season.

After playing most of the season of the Under 20s, Luke was called up to the first team squad towards the end of the season, where he was named as an unused substitute in the home games against Aberdeen and Motherell in April, before coming off the bench against Ross County in Dingwall to make his first team debut. The following week he made his first appearance in the starting eleven as the side narrowly lost out 1-0 to St Johnstone, and three days later he signed an extension to his contract, keeping him at Tannadice for an extra year.

This is Luke's first time out on loan and he is keen to learn from the experience.   He told the website "I used to come to Pitreavie for tournaments with Woodside Boys Club when I was a kid so it feels weird to be back again."

Made six appearances and scored one goal before returning to United and then going out on loan to Montrose for the remainder of season 2013-2014.
