05/01/12: A good cup run could be just the medi

Jim McIntyre

Manager Jim McIntyre is looking forward to Saturday's break from SPL action as the Scottish Cup takes centre stage.  The Pars face the long trip north to face Inverness in what Jim knows will be a tough game:-

"It's always a battle against Inverness; that much is guaranteed. But it's a battle we're ready for and it will be a good game on Saturday."

With the club struggling at the moment in the league, the cup offers a little bit of respite for everybody, an opportunity for the club to get some cash into the bank and a chance for the players to go hunting cup glory. Jim added:-

"I think that the Scottish Cup is a fabulous competition and we definitely want to be in the hat for the next round. It's important for the club's revenue, it's important for the players and it's important to me. We've already had two good games against Inverness this season, both of which we should have won. In both of these games we've put in some of our best performances of the season so it's a game we can all look forward to."

Jim also knows that he needs to be careful about comparing the Inverness side that they've played twice already with the Inverness we'll see on Saturday afternoon:-

"Cup games and leagues games are very similar but each game is played on its own merits. Both our squad and Inverness' are different; they've got some of their good players back from injury and so their results have picked up of late. They're on a good run of form and we're aware of that but we're also aware that we've caused them problems when we've met already this season so we'll be out to do the same again."

So could Dunfermline balance their string of bad results in the league with a string of good results in the Cup that could take them to Hampden in May.   Macca continued:-

"It's something everybody dreams about but it's a long, long way away. We're just taking it one game at a time and just need one good win to kick start our season."

On the injury front, after the shock news that Paul Gallacher will miss the rest of the season through injury, there are a few good news stories hopefully coming in the next few weeks.  The Manager revealed:-

"There are a few boys back in training. Craig Easton has trained for a couple of weeks now Kevin Rutkiewicz has been training for a week and Steven McDougall rejoined training today and we're hopeful Austin McCann is not far from coming back. "
