Monday, 2nd Mar 200902/03/09: Andy Kirk ruled out but the Manager is hoping his side can bounce back even without their top goalscorer.
Jim McIntyre has ruled out Andy Kirk for the away game at Dingwall, adding him to the growing list of Graeme Holmes, Kevin Harper and Simon Wiles out through injury. A groin strain has put paid to Kirk facing Ross County but the Manager is hoping his side can bounce back even without their top goalscorer.
"It is something we need to do if we want to remain chasing the leaders. It is our game in hand but Ross County beat us at home two weeks ago so hopefully we can return the favour. They are a good side and we will need to pick it up from Saturday and put that behind us. The good thing about having a game so quick is that its a chance to get it out of your system and put right the result from Saturday.
"Saturday wasn't good enough, we know that, the players know that themselves - they are honest enough. There could be changes because on Saturday we didn't compete; we didn't win headers, tackles and we didn't pass the ball well. If you don't do that then you are going to struggle. We have got to get back to basics and earn the right to play."
Tuesday night's game brings Macca up against Derek Adams for the third time as managers but of course they used to play against each other, albeit in different areas of the park:-
"He was always an excellent professional and he is doing a great job up at County.
"Promotion was the aim at the start of the season and it is vital that we take it game by game. We can't afford many more slip ups as there are only twelve games left. It is important that we focus on the game that is ahead and not worry about Saturday. Saturday will look after itself with it being the cup.
"St Johnstone could have been a lot further away from us if they had won more games. That is testimony to the league that we are playing in that every team is finding it difficult to put winning runs together. It really is a tough league but great credit to St Johnstone coming from behind. It is a fantastic achievement for Del, Tony and the players."
