Managers Post Clyde

Saturday, 4th Oct 2008

"It might seem like that but you are never too comfortable, all they needed to do was get a goal back and a bit of nervousness could have crept it.

Clyde v Dunfermline

Jim McIntyre was pleased to take the three points from Broadwood:-

"I think everybody saw the conditions and the first half of the game was horrendous. To a degree that makes it a bit of a lottery but we had some good passing movements and two excellent goals."

Two goals up at the break but Macca would not concede that this was a comfortable win from his viewpoint:-

"It might seem like that but you are never too comfortable, all they needed to do was get a goal back and a bit of nervousness could have crept it. I thought they were excellent and passed the ball as well as we could in difficult conditions."

In the warm up the Manager's plans had to be re-drawn after Greg Shields experienced a calf injury and Calum Woods had to come into the side. This did not perturb the gaffer:-

"I wasn't that concerned, obviously it is a blow to lose somebody of Greg's calibre especially when he has been playing really well. But for the first time this year I have had competition to pick a bench and that's the first time I have been able to say that in nine games. I was confident I had Calum Woods there and Nipper just slots in back at centre half where he has played for most of his career. When he got the injury we had Calum Woods who can play anywhere across the back - he really is a star talent that boy."

Asked whether he considered that was his side right into the promotion mix, Macca replied:-

"I don't think the teams below us are out of it either, it is such a tight league this year. I talked about that in my programme notes the other week; anybody can beat anybody on their day. There are some hard places to go and every team has strengthened this year so if you are not at it right from the start then it can be a long day. We are satisfied with the first nine games."

Bench at Broadwood

Clyde Manager, John Brown answered his first question about what he thought of his team's performance with a question of his own:-

"What performance? That says it all. Dunfermline got a couple of injuries but we give two slack goals away. The left side was weak, I have just said to them there, only three players showed the right attitude for 90 minutes - Gemmill, McKay and Kettlewell, Higgins in the second half - that doesn't win you games.

"On that performance and on last week's performance it is going to be a another long season for us. We never tested their goalkeeper again, that's something we are going to have a look at. We were weak at the back, big boy Bayne is a handful for anybody in this division. I felt that we were struggling throughout at the back."

John Brown's answer to the enquiry about what was in store for Clyde players in the two weeks until their next league match:-

"A lot of ****** running for some of them who don't want to put it in. We have been giving them the ball in every session but we have a fortnight and they will know all about it this week. Jobs are on the line, I have got to see the right attitude. We have managed to get a few points on the board through graft and working hard for each other but I felt there wasn't enough of us out there today.

"You are playing against an experienced team in Dunfermline, they have got good SPL experience so we are looking for a bit more from our boys. The two goals we lost - a ball inside the full back and another one a shot from the edge of the box when we didn't get enough bodies out to the shot. That's what we will have to look at.

"A lot of the players want to have a look at themselves; I hear them after the game talking about it but it not about talking, it's about on the park. If you play well you do not need to open your mouth."
