24/03/09: "We just never did enough, we were second best tonight.

Ross County v Dunfermline

At Dingwall Jim McIntyre said after losing to a spectacular Craig Brewster goal in added time :-

"It was a sore one to take especially coming from our own mistake. It was still a hell of a finish from Craig, fantastic technique and a goal worthy of winning any game. We have to look at it because we presented it from a basic mistake by ourselves.

"We grafted away even though we knew we hadn't played well. We changed the system about to try and spark something, we managed to do that with a fantastic cross from Calum Woods for a header from Graham Bayne who I thought was our best player on the night. He battled away admirably.

"We just never did enough, we were second best tonight. I don't want to make excuses but that is six games in two and a half weeks and that might have caught up with us tonight."

Macca had stressed to his players after making the semi-final of the Homecoming Scottish Cup that they had to forget that for now and concentrate on the league. He said:-

"That's our bread and butter and its vital. If we had come here and won tonight then we would have gone into the International break with a bit more optimism. It was a severe blow tonight, especially after a fantastic performance against Clyde. We have really played well over the last four or five games in terms of the kind of football we have played. Tonight we just weren't at it"

Ross County manager Derek Adams was naturally chuffed with the three points.

"It was certainly a bit different from Saturday when we got mugged, but tonight obviously we deserved to win the game. We created a lot of chances with a lot of good play and the finish from Craig was truly magnificent.

"They scored a good goal as well. It was a good ball into the box and a good header from Bayne, but in the end the way we played, I just felt we deserved to win the game tonight.

For Craig to hit a volley like that I thought was marvellous. I played him tonight because he had done well against Dunfermline the last time. You always like playing against your old teams and he scored against them the last time and scored a wonderful goal tonight. It was a cheap signing.

Dunfermline played exactly the same way as us trying to get their full backs on the ball. It left space down the sides and it was a wee bit cat and mouse down the sides. At times we got on top and at times they got on top. It was a good game from both sides but I am just delighted to get the victory.

"It takes us above Queen of the South and with seven games to go we just have to keep on going and try and pick up as many wins as possible. It was a big one for us tonight."
