Managers Post Ross County

Tuesday, 8th Mar 2011

08/03/11: JM- "I was disappointed too with the manner they played; we didn't play the way we are capable of and only time will tell if it is a good point or not."

Jim McIntyre felt that his team put in a poor performance against Ross County:-

"We never played well. Normally we are very good at passing the ball about but we just didn't play. We gave too many slack balls away and the goal was a mistake. He (the keeper) has made a mistake and it has cost the goal."

Ross County scored midway through the second half and the Manager was looking for a reaction from his team:-

"One thing about them, as they have proved several times when they have gone behind that they have character to come back. It didn't surprise me when they did albeit from the penalty spot."

"It is a relief to get the point but we had a great chance to win it when Pat Clarke was through and blazed it over the bar but we didn't deserve to win it. Let's not hide away from the fact that our performance on the night didn't merit winning the game.

"If you can pick up a point when you don't play well then you have made the best out of a bad situation. We know that it wasn't good enough but we will lick our wounds and be in tomorrow to prepare for the derby."

Asked if he felt that there was a nervousness both on and off the park, Macca agreed:-

"Tonight the boys definitely did not pass the ball as well as they could and that feeds to the crowd and things go from there. Players have just got to get on; they have to stand up and be counted, keep doing the things that they know they are good at and the things that have won them games in the past. We didn't do that tonight and that was the disappointment. I was disappointed too with the manner they played; we didn't play the way we are capable of and only time will tell if it is a good point or not."

All is not lost but Saturday's derby at Falkirk grows increasingly more important:-

"We are still up there or thereabouts. That was the aim at the start of the season but we know that what we produced tonight isn't good enough and we need to do better than that."

Ross County manager Jimmy Calderwood was pleased with his team's showing against a team going for the championship:-

"We kept the ball well and dominated. They are always going to be dangerous especially with Austin McCann and Andy Kirk but first half we played really really well. In the second half to be fair to Jim (McIntyre) they pushed on a little bit and for the first ten minutes they were in charge. Then we settled down again and went 1-0 ahead."

Not surprisingly Jimmy described the penalty as soft and claimed that there had been a foul on his centre half in the build up to the incident that caused the penalty.

"Jason Marr said that it wasn't a penalty but the referee gave it. Then Dunfermline threw everything at us but I think the least we deserved was a draw. We are improving; Dunfermline is a difficult place to come, they are going for the championship and we more than matched them. There was a lot of good football played."

Jimmy was asked if Dunfermline had what it takes to win the league and he agreed saying:-

"You can see that they have goals in them but they played against a good team tonight. If they win at Falkirk their challenge is back on again. You can't write them off, they have too many good players."
