Managers post Forfar

Saturday, 16th Aug 2014

Jim Jefferies felt that his team did not take the good chances that came their way and paid the penalty as a result:-

Listen to this Jim Jefferies Interview

"They were not half chances they were sitters. Gozie has not done a lot of training and not had lots of games. You could say it was lack of sharpness but you need to stick these away.

"Even in the second half, we were on top and they scored against the run of play. They weren't causing us too much bother - the wind was more of a problem for both sides.

"We had started the second half quite well but as I had said before they went back out to make sure that we don't let them have pops at goal from 25 or 30 yards out. In one ear and out the other - the boy had nobody near him and he hit it.

"I said to them that they were just sitting there hoping that he misses. If he scores you are in trouble.

"The second one well that is just laughable because everybody knew who they were picking up but the big man has not picked up, not got within twenty yards of him. It was a free header so when you give away goals as easily as that and miss the sitters that we do, you are going to make it hard.

"We have probably been the better side on the day and passed well but you have to win matches. You win matches by putting the chances that you get away. In the second half Rab Douglas has had two or three good saves and it summed up our second half when the ball came off the post. Sometimes those go in but even though you are on top you know that the other team is going to get a chance if you switch off.

"We switched off twice and it has cost us two goals. We have to learn from that but I do not think we were outplayed today. Playing good stuff is not good enough, if you are playing to create chances then you have to stick them away and then be extra vigilant when you are not taking them. The other team is going to get a chance and you have to be more aware and need to make sure that doesn't happen.

"They have an experienced side who are always up for it because of the connections. We are a target for everybody, all the teams are up for us. I have to say that we were on top for most of the game.

"We played some great football, created some good chances in the first half. If we had gone in 2-0 up at half time and I'm sure that nobody would have complained. It should have been three to be honest because of the nature of the chances. We gifted two goals by not closing someone down in the middle of the park, who is capable of hitting it. That is annoying us.

"You don't see any of our boys getting a free header or a shot from 25 yards with no pressure on him. They have to learn from that."

Forfar manager Dick Campbell was sporting a wide smile when he gave his post match comments:-

"The difference between the teams were the goals. Both teams went about their job right. I said to them at half time that when they were playing with the wind, Dunfermline did not have a shot in the first and I did not want that to happen to us.

"Then we scored from thirty yards away, a great goal from Dale Hilson who has been on fire since the start of the season.

"We played some great stuff in the first half, so did Dunfermline but from a Forfar perspective, I have no complaints whatsoever."
