Martin starts for Scotland

Dunfermline's young centre back, Lewis Martin started for the Scotland under 19s in their international friendly against Holland.

Lewis told the website how he felt he had done in Friday's game at the Falkirk Stadium.

"We drew one each against Holland. It was a hard game when they got the ball they passed it about but when we did we did the same. We had a lot of chances, a draw was probably a fair result although we could have edged it in the end."

Lewis played in the centre of a back four consisting of Ryan Sinnamon of Rangers, Scott McKenna from Aberdeen, who was the captain and Celtic's Calum Waters at left back. Lewis continued:-

"The Dutch team were technically brilliant on the ball, all they do is pass it and move all the time. We knew that we just needed to go tight against them and that is what we did. We coped with them."

Up against Lewis was Richairo Zivkovic a player he had encountered before when he was at Rangers.

"He played for Groningen back then but he is at Ajax now. He is a good player but I felt that I did well against him. He is fast, quick and strong too."

Lewis hopes that he will be selected again in the future and believes that his chances are best if he can continue to play with Dunfermline's first team.

Dunfermline fans at Ochilview Park on Saturday saw one of Lewis' Scotland team mates when Tom Walsh was a 78th minute sub for Stenhousemuir. The young midfielder is on loan there from Rangers.

Scotland Under-19s place in the Elite Round of the UEFA European Championships guaranteed.

Scotland qualify for the next round of qualifying as the best third place team from the 13 first round qualifying groups, having finished unbeaten in their group which included Lithuania, Norway and Finland.

The draw for the Elite Round will take place on 3rd December in Nyon, with the Elite Round fixtures taking place between the 23rd and 31st March 2015. The round consists of four nations playing each other over the course of a week with one of the four nations as hosts.

The winner of the group qualifying for next summer’s finals in Greece.
