Moffat seeking memorable win

Friday, 29th Aug 2014

Michael Moffat has a good habit of scoring against Stranraer but is hoping for better success in terms of results.

While playing for Ayr United Moff scored five goals in two matches against them but will be subject of an undesirable quiz question at Somerset Park by scoring a hat trick yet being on the losing team.

"I scored a hat trick and got beat 6-3 so it was a day of mixed emotions. When we won 5-0, I scored two.

"We will need to be at our best to win the game. Stranraer were a tough team to play against last season; especially down there they always make it hard for you. Last season they had a really good season and might struggle to repeat that this season."

Michael played Stranraer twice while playing for Girvan.

"We got beat 4-2 down there in the Scottish Cup, I scored that game as well so I suppose I have done alright against them over the years. I am struggling to remember winning down there though."

The fact that it is Stranraer who are the opponents doesn't really make any difference to the 29 year old striker:-

"You feel that you can score against anybody. It is just the way it works out sometimes. There are always games and teams that you always seem to score against or grounds that you go to where you do well. I don't know how that is.

"You go into every game wanting to do your best and score some goals, Saturday will be no different. Let's hope we can continue from Tuesday night, put in another good performance and get them in before we go into the international break.

"We dominated for spells on Tuesday, especially in the first half. Apart from hitting the crossbar they didn't really cause us too many problems. Our game plan worked well and even once they scored the reaction was great from the boys. We probably had our best spell in the game when it was 1-1.

"We had chances to get back in front and if we had I think we would have held out. Even after they scored we kept pushing to try and get an equaliser.

"The boys will take confidence from running them close. That was a team that is two leagues above us and I think everybody would agree that there wasn't much of a difference there. That is where we should be aiming to get to."

Michael has just scored two goals for Dunfermline but hopes to become a bit more prolific:-

"I would be delighted if I had more goals but I am sure that if I keep working hard the goals will come. As long as somebody is putting the ball in the net and picking up the points it doesn't really matter. We want to get three points on Saturday because a two week break is a long time to wait, especially if you have just been beat. You want to go into it on a high so this is an important game."
