Morris chooses not to sign

On offer was a contract with a break clause that could have been exercised should the club not succeed in making it to the Championship next season

CALLUM MORRIS on the ball

Jim Jefferies is disappointed that Callum Morris has not followed the example of Andy Geggan and Josh Falkingham in signing a new contract at the club. The 24 year old central defender was offered a contract with a break clause that he could have exercised should the club not succeed in making it to the Championship next season.

"If it did not work out here and they had a chance to move on, it would be their prerogative to do that. Josh and Geggs have given themselves a bit of protection because they have security. They love it here, they know that the club will not stand in their way because they have put a break clause in it - it is not a lot of money but at least it gives me an opportunity to not have to run back to supporters and the board to get money to replace them. By putting clauses in that gives me money to be able to replace them. That is the bit that disappoints me."

Callum Morris and Andy Geggan leave the pitch

After six months without a club Callum signed for Dunfermline on 31st August 2012. His career had stalled after being released from Newcastle United, trialled for Gateshead, making five appearances for Blyth Spartans and two for Blue square League team Hayes and Yeading United. His place in the Dunfermline team has been assured since making his debut in the 3-1 Fife derby win over Raith Rovers. 61 appearances later the club's offer has not been accepted and his manager will be keeping a close tab on him just in case his play gets affected:-

"I think Josh and Geggs form has picked up since making their decision. If Callum starts losing his way or losing focus and that starts to affect his performances then I have players who will replace him. If Callum doesn't handle the situation then the same will happen to him as happened to Josh earlier.

CALLUM MORRIS v RANGERS

"Credit to them for at least showing that they are prepared to help Dunfermline get something if they want to move on. That is what is disappointing me most about Callum; we weren't holding him back - the break clause was always going to be less than what we valued him at anyway.

"It is his decision but the offer is off the table now. If he doesn't sign until the end of the season he has lost that incentive, there will not be any back dating only renegotiation if he chaps my door and wants to sign. The process will start all over again but he might not get the same offer."
