New Street Football Programme at DAFC's Pars in the Community
Wednesday, 28th Nov 2012starting Friday, 30th November at Dunfermline Academy of Sport
This Friday sees the start of a great new Street Football programme in conjunction with DAFC's Pars in the Community and Scott + Co. The Street Football programme aims to attract teenagers and disaffected youths off the streets and into football as a positive crime diversion activity. The first session of DAFC's Street Football will consist of 5 aside matches on a Friday night and will run up until May next year when the best team will win the Scott and Co Street Football Trophy. Community Coach, Kelly Armstrong commented, "the idea behind this initiative is to get the kids off the streets and doing something constructive with their time, having fun in a safe environment, and learning some great football skills. Pitreavie has always been a haven for teenagers to hang around and a number of the pitches have been damaged in the past. As a Club which always prides itself on its place at the heart of the community, we hope a positive programme like this will help reduce anti-social behaviour in the Dunfermline area and create a great fun place for the kids to be on a Friday night." Scott + Co are a well established firm of Sheriff Officers and Messengers-At-Arms based in Edinburgh with offices around Scotland. Their involvement originated in July of this year when the company agreed a sponsorship package with The Pars Trust to help install a new, full size 3G pitch at Pitreavie Playing Fields, as a crucial contribution in support of the main donors, Fife Council , sportscotland and DAFC. This new installation is due to start on-site in January 2013 and will radically increase access to quality football and training facilities for community users of all ages.
Scott + Co also signed up to help DAFC's Community Programme by becoming Cup Sponsors for DAFC's new 'Top Street Football Team 2012/13'.
Graeme Simpson, Regional Manager for Scott + Co added, "Scott + Co's support for the Street Football Trophy is a key part of our broader involvement in the development of the facilities at Pitreavie. It's not just about giving teenagers something positive to do. We believe that young people have huge potential, but that can't be released without proper support and facilities. For most, Street Football will be a good way of making friends and keeping fit. For others it may be a way of discovering a real talent. We hope the Street Football Trophy will also be good fun and look forward to handing the silverware to the best team."
