Only one Millen happy at Ayr

Saturday, 11th Oct 2014

"Every time we have played Ayr it has been a tough, tough match

- - Listen to this Ross Millen interview

Ross Millen spoke to the website after the win at Ayr and if you listen to the audio you will detect just how relieved he was to hear the final whistle:-

"Thank God it's finished! We were under a bit of pressure at the end but I thought we did brilliantly. Gregor Buchanan was immense tonight and so was Stuart Urquhart - he was unlucky that he had to come off injured.

"All the boys did well and I thought we showed a different side to us with a wee bit of grit. We learned from the Morton game that we should get more grit into our game."

The team certainly made it hard work since had they capitalised on their first half performance they could have been more comfortably clear at the interval. Ross continued:-

"Right now we are not taking all our chances but that will come. Moffat is a great goalscorer, you can see in training that he has a lot of quality. Obviously Ayr were going to come back into the game in the second half but we showed a good side to us which I thoroughly enjoyed."

When Stuart Urquhart was forced to retire through injury Ross who enjoyed his 20th birthday only last month, switched to play in the heart of the defence for the final 35 minutes of the match.

"I have played all over the place in defence but I have enjoyed it. It is a great experience and playing against players such as Craig Beattie. I was happy to adjust, it is different playing in a different position but all the boys played really well. Scully made dome great saves and we deserved to win.

"Every time we have played Ayr it has been a tough, tough match. They are one of the better teams in this league and they test us every time, home and away. A good win!"

Faissal El Bakhtaoui was the Pars Man of the Match, Ross described him as "buzzing":-

"He had been really chirpy in training which is good. He was really good tonight. When he is on his game he is unstoppable."

When informed that the win took Dunfermline to the top of the table Ross was more pleased with the number of clean sheets achieved - the seventh of the season so far.

"As a defender you are always interested in clean sheets and that is three in a row now. If we weren't making chances then obviously it would be a bit dodgy but we are making chances and we are doing well at the back just now."

Ross' father, Andy, is the Assistant Manager to Mark Roberts at Ayr so only one of the Millen family went home happy after the game. Ross commented;-

"It is good to win but there are more games to come against my Dad's team, Ayr United. It is great coming back to where I watched my Dad play. I have been the mascot so it is good to play here."
