Opportunity Rocks for Ross

Friday, 17th Sep 2010

"Hopefully I can bring something to the squad and help them achieve. The ambitions for the season are to get back into the Premierleague and maintain the good start that they have made so far.

Jack Ross

New signing Jack Ross confessed that signing for Dunfermline came "out of blue":-

"It was a slightly unusual situation for me because it meant signing outside the transfer window.  The Manager found himself in a position to bring somebody to the Club; it is great from my point of view to get the opportunity to get back playing as quickly as this.  Hopefully I can bring something to the squad and help them achieve.  The ambitions for the season are to get back into the Premierleague and maintain the good start that they have made so far.

"I am at a different stage of my career at 34 now. Although I have played in this division before seven years ago, it is a little bit new for me in that sense but obviously I gained experience at that time. I played a couple of hundred games in the Premierleague so from that point of view I wil be able to help.  Whether that is - during games or in training or in general around the club - I will be able to do that and be a positive influence.

"I don't think it needs to be changed because it certainly is a talented squad; there is a great deal of confidence at the moment but hopefully I can help them maintain what they are doing."

Jack has not seen Dunfermline play this season but he spoke to two or three people who had and was told that they were very impressive and a very good side:-

"That heightened my desire to come. I know some of the lads from playing with or against them.  There are others whose names I know but I haven't had the opportunity to play with them or against them.  It is nice to come in and appreciate how good these players are because you don't until you come in and work with them."

Chris Smith and Gary Mason were at St Mirren with Jack, Austin McCann at Clyde and Willie Gibson for a short spell at Kilmarnock,

"I know some of the players but I am more familiar with some rather than others. Once I start to get to know everybody, I will look forward to playing games whether it is reserve games initially. I am enjoying it so far.

"I know the Manager; we did our 'A' license together a couple of years ago - I know him as a person and know how he was as a player.  He takes a similar approach to management  but there wasn't a great deal for me to think about. I was surprised a little to get the opportunity to come to a club this size and with this ambition at the moment because of the way the game was and the position I found myself in.  I am grateful for the opportunity."

Jack played in Hamilton's opening two SPL matches of this season, so he has missed only a couple of games.

"I am lucky that I have not been out for an awful long time. It has worked out well for me and you sometimes need that lucky break with the Manager being able to bring somebody else to the club. It is up to me to repay that by helping in any way that I can. Hopefully I will be able to do that on the park."

Jack did not rule out continuing his media work as long as it does not conflict with games in the First Division.

"I have done that for the past four or five years while I have been playing.  It has never interfered with me playing and as long as I am playing that is my main focus and my main job.  If I can work around the football it would be great, if not so be it."
