Pars Legends Portrait Gallery

Friday, 22nd Aug 2014

The tunnel that the players emerge from at the Norrie McCathie Stand and the area behind that known as the undercroft have had a major facelift

Photographs of Pars legends have been hung all the way along the route from the home dressing room to the tunnel.

Eighteen former Pars players and managers have been remembered in this fantastic interpretation of the history of Dunfermline Athletic. Extra special boards have been devoted to Jock Stein, Sir Alex Ferguson and Norrie McCathie. All this has been made possible through the generous support of Pars fans.

Ross McArthur, Director stated:-

"The club is slowly recovering from years of neglect and the existing changing room area was badly needing attention. With the support of so many people, the 'undercroft' in the Norrie Stand is now more fitting of a club with our rich history. It will hopefully inspire Pars players for many years to come, and be a permanent reminder of how the Pars supporters saved our club.

"For little or no expense, the club has been able to totally enhance the area by cleaning, painting and utilising fantastic design ideas.

"I would like to pay tribute to a number of people who contributed to this transformation: Mikey Mlotkiewicz who kindly spent hours doing the fantastic design work; SRJ Windows for providing a new entrance door; a number of volunteers from the Lizzie Pars Supporters Club and the Pars Supporters Trust who spent a number of hours painting; and of course Dunfermline Athletic Supporters Club and the Pars Supporters Trust who kindly covered the cost of all of the new design work. It is yet another example that 'we're in this together' at the club."

John Burt of the Pars Supporters Trust (PST) said "the PST was asked to help with the refurbishment and getting the pictures of the fans, managers and players up. We were happy to contribute towards that.

"It is excellent and a nice variety between more recent players and old players. A few of the older players I had never come across before so it is good to see and hopefully a reminder that one day they could have their photographs hung here."

Steven Walker, chair of the Dunfermline Athletic Supporters Club explained:-

"Marvyn Stewart approached us with funds from the shop and that was half the funding for this wonderful tunnel area. It is really smart and we are really really proud to be part if it.

"It is nice to see all the legends framed and mounted on the walls although some of them are a little too old for me. John Watson is probably the first person I can remember as a youngster."

Four former players met this week to view the picture gallery and pose for pictures beside their portraits. Willie Callaghan, Roy Barry, Bert Paton and Hamish French took part in the photocall and also spoke exclusively to this website. Their thoughts are at the following links:-
