Pars tiger can change his stripes
Friday, 9th Oct 2015Marc McAusland:- "St Mirren have had a few problems this season, they are not doing as well as everybody would have thought".
After eight years as a St Mirren player, Marc McAusland will experience the away changing room for the first time when he returns with Dunfermline for the Quarter Final of the Petrofac Training Cup. He knows that it will be different:-
"I am looking forward to it. I will just treat it like any other game to be honest and hope that we can get the result to take us into the next stage. The only difference is that there is not far for me to travel to get there."
Marc was in the St Mirren team that dug out a victory at home against the Pars in last season's League Cup but he is confident that his new club has the ability to win this time.
"We have a good squad here, playing well and scoring a lot of goals. St Mirren have had a few problems this season, they are not doing as well as everybody would have thought. We can certainly cause them troubles.
"There are quality players here and hopefully we can use that to our advantage come Saturday and in the league. We are the underdogs because we are in the league below but there will not be too much of a difference because obviously we are doing well and because St Mirren are struggling for form in the league."
The 27 year old central defender will still recognise six or seven players left from his days at St Mirren. Physio, kit man and staff will be familiar places too but since he trained with them in pre season there shouldn't be too many strangers to him.
"There will be a few that I know really well and we will have a bit of banter I am sure on the pitch. I still keep in touch with some of the boys and played golf with a few of them through the summer."
Having considered offers from abroad Marc chose to sign at East End Park on 24th September and even in that short time he claims that he feels much fitter now.
"My fitness wasn't too bad but my match fitness was lacking because I wasn't playing. I felt better on Saturday and I will just keep improving with every game I play. I just need to keep working hard and do that bit extra over and above the training I am doing. Hopefully I can get as many 90 minutes as I can."
