Phinn ready for Rovers

Saturday, 1st Jan 2011

"We were disappointed to draw the last game against them here and I am sure that the boys won't forget it either.

Nick Phinn celebrates opening the scoring

Nick Phinn had more than one reason to celebrate his side's 5-0 trouncing of Cowdenbeath on Wednesday night. Not only did the three points increase the Pars lead at the top of the First Division and ensure that they start 2011 in pole position, his goal - Dunfermline's third was his first of the season:-

"It was a great win, great to get the goals and great to keep a clean sheet. We have aspirations to go further so it is important to keep that home run going. We just need to take it game by game and we knew that Cowdenbeath would be difficult. You could see that in the first half but once we got the goals in the second half the confidence grew.

"I felt I played poor by my own standards in the first half, second half I was a wee bit better. I was glad to get the goal it was my first this season and I hope that there are many more to come. It was put on a plate for me and it was probably harder to miss. Paul has putting in these crosses in training, he has been very patient but he got his chance and in my opinion he definitely took it."

Nick was delighted that luck had fallen Dunfermline's way to allow their fixtures to be further on than their challengers:-

"We have got the games in when other teams have been off and taken ourselves to the top of the league. All we can do now is to try and win games and hopefully stay there."

The result is a welcome boost ahead of the match against second placed Raith Rovers on Sunday:-

"It is a great result in the lead up to it but we know it is going to be an even more difficult game. Especially going to their home ground, it is not going to be easy and we already have had a defeat there this season. It will be really hard and we will approach it like every other game.

"We were disappointed to draw the last game against them here and I am sure that the boys won't forget it either. We showed in that game what we are capable of and we were just unfortunate to lose Neilly and in the end we ended up paying the price for them coming back. The boys are still hurting from that and we will take it into Sunday's game."
