It was season 1992-93 when Dunfermline last faced Montrose in the League Cup. The Pars had gone all the way to the Hampden final in the previous season and a sizeable Pars support travelled to Montrose for the first tie of the next campaign on 12th August 1992. Two goals from George O`Boyle and one each from Roddy Grant, Derek McWilliams, Scott Leitch and Billy Davies took them past the Links Park club who were managed at the time by Jim Leishman.
The Pars tie against the Third Division side on Tuesday night will be their fourth meeting in the League Cup and the Pars have won all three previous meetings with matches in 1981-82 won 1-0 away and 2-1 at home by the Pars. Montrose are not a side that Dunfermline have played much in any competition. Just thirty league matches in total over the years, resulting in 17 wins for the Pars, 4 for Montrose and 9 draws.

The teams most recent meeting was in the 2010-11 Scottish Cup. Montrose scored an added time equaliser on 8th January before the Pars won the replay at East End ten days later by five goals to three, in a match that saw keeper Chris Smith red carded and Austin McCann take over in goals. So far this season Montrose have not won away from home and last season they only managed to win on the road four times. Dunfermline have not won at home this season having lost to Partick and in friendlies to Bristol City, Hearts and East Fife and last season failed to win at home until the last week in April. This cup tie is a good opportunity to get off the mark at home for season 2012-13.
