Rory Loy Post Airdrie

" I felt we were unlucky in the first half whereas in the second the luck evened itself out a little bit."

Rory Loy v Airdrie United

Rory Loy has now been at Dunfermline for more than a month but his first senior goal was a very welcome equaliser in a match that Dunfermline were expected to win over Airdrie United. He felt that although his side came into it the last ten minutes they were disappointed not to score a winner:-

"Some people will say it's a fair result but going on chances, I mean Airdrie had a few shots from outside the box, but on clear cut chances I feel we were the better team and should have won the game."

The first half was a non event for Dunfermline and he revealed that Jim McIntyre had some strong words at half time:-

"He just said we had to pick it up which we did in the second half. It was a pretty poor performance but I personally felt that we were unlucky. Every shot we seemed to hit was bouncing back straight to one of their midfielders. I felt we were unlucky in the first half whereas in the second the luck evened itself out a little bit."

That was helped greatly by a goal from Rory. He described how it came about:-

"The ball got played through and I was confident I could beat the defender with pace, I think he slipped a wee bit, that put me through one on one and I've managed to tuck it away."

It wasn't uppermost in the minds of the Pars supporters as they celebrated the 49th minute equaliser but there were protests from the opposition that Rory might have been coming back from an offside position:-

"You don't think about that when you're playing. All you're concentrating on is getting the ball and putting it in the net and that's what I did."

Scoring goals for Dunfermline in the First Division is a priority for the 20 year old who has played at both Kilmarnock and Rangers:-

"Obviously everyone's looking to play first team football and I'm getting it here but as far as I know I'm due to go back to Ibrox on January 26th. I'm not saying that's a definite but we'll wait and see."

Loy has now made six appearances in the five weeks since he arrived from Rangers. He says he is not perturbed by not being played as a out and out striker:-

"The team's been grinding out results. The only defeat since I've joined has been Dundee . It's good to score obviously but as long as the team's doing well I'm happy.

"I'm happy just to play. I played through the middle for the reserves but when I was at Killie I played in midfield. To be honest I've come here to play first team football, that's what I'm doing so I'm happy to play anywhere the Manager puts me and I'll try my best."

In the post match press conference, the west coast centred media asked Rory what he thought of his team mate John Fleck getting 90 minutes for the Gers against Falkirk that afternoon. Rory was clearly surprised that the number 53 shirt had featured in the 3-1 win at Ibrox:-

"Well I didn't know Flecky started today so I'll need to give him a phone. It's good to see boys like Flecky getting a chance. That's my ultimate aim to play in Rangers first team so that's why I'm here. Whether it means I remain here until the end of the season and try to prove myself here and then go back. My contract's up at the end of the season and they still haven't spoken to me so if they want me to play there then they'll need to offer me a new one."

Maybe with a view to that possible contract, Rangers Billy McLaren watched both Rory and fellow on loan youngster, Willie McLachlan in the 1-1 draw at East End Park. Rory reflected on his games with the Pars:-

"I came on as a sub in the first couple of games and thought I did really well. I started against Clyde and still felt I did well though the Manager took me off after 60 minutes. Whether that was because it was my first start I don't know. The only game I didn't do well in was Dundee . In general I think I have done well.

"It's just a bit sharper, a bit quicker, stronger, tougher, all these we things make you a better player. In the reserves there's no crowd, no pressure, well there is pressure to perform well but there's no pressure to get the result at the end of the day. It's about you and your progression and about making the first team, it's not about grinding out results, which it is here.

"I train here and go back to Murray Park the odd time to do some weights and apart from that to show face?show that I'm still a Rangers player.  I do all my training here and I'm loving it just now."
