Rangers were given a good test as the young Pars side put in a very impressive performance.

DUNFERMLINE 0 RANGERS 1

Faced with yet another though rather exaggerated, injury crisis, Dunfermline fielded no fewer than ten of their under 19 squad during this SPL Reserve match played at East End Park on Tuesday afternoon. Rangers were given a good test as the young side put in a very impressive performance.

The visitors started brightly forcing a series of corners in the opening minutes. Nick Phinn produced the Pars first shot at goal in 12 minutes meeting Sean Muhsin`s cross but firing just wide.

Ross and Muhsin worked a good move down the right in 20 minutes and when the ball was delivered in Iain Williamson was on the end of it to shoot but his on-target shot was deflected wide.

Dunfermline enjoyed more than their share of possession and were passing the ball well but their final ball let them down whilst Rangers looked more dangerous on the counterattack. This was how the Glasgow side netted the only goal of the match in 37th minute. Calum Smith was blocked on the right byeline and Rangers broke swiftly. Left three on three Makhtar N`Diaye was the one who put in the shot that Greg Paterson did really well to save. The rebound was saved again by the Pars keeper but Derek CARCARY`s deflected follow up sneaked in under the bar.

The second half was good end to end entertainment yet Paterson was rarely troubled. Dunfermline created many good chances but could not beat Lionel Leitizi. Derek Howie had an attempt off a Williamson cross and Scott McBride had an effort at the far post blocked. Leitizi parried Smith`s shot as the ball was played in from the right.

Rangers again looked dangerous on the break and had the ball in the net only for referee Jason Masson to mysteriously rule out. Howie further tested Leitizi and then Williamson had a shot and a header but could not score. Last attack of the game set up Phinn with the opportunity for an equaliser but his effort was blocked on the edge of the box.
