Scott Morrison put pen to paper, signing a contract today that will keep him at East End Park until the end of May 2008. The Dunfermline defender has repaid the loyalty shown to him by the club during a long period out of action through injury by committing himself to the club for another year.

The left sided player joined the club from Aberdeen in June 2005 but his first season was wrecked after suffering a career threatening injury while on duty for Scotland U21s in Austria. There were fears that Morrison would be forced out of the game, such was the severity of the injury.

However, thanks to treatment from world-renowned Colorado doctor Dr Richard Steadman, whose list of past patients include former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson and current Parkhead defender John Kennedy, Morrison was set on the road to recovery.

It took some time however; fifteen months elapsed before the player was able to resume his Dunfermline career. Scott commented:-

"It's great to get a new contract - I thought I was on my way so it's good to get it all sorted out.

"The club have shown a lot of faith in me and helped me get back to full fitness, so I'm glad to stay another year and hopefully help them back to the SPL.  I was in and out of the team towards the end of last season but getting into the Scottish Cup final line-up reassured me that I was in the Manager's plans and on the back of that I am happy to stay at Dunfermline.

"No player likes to experience relegation and it was hard to take for all of us after the decent run we put in. But there is no point moping as what's done is done.

"The Manager had been saying he wanted to keep me but the budgets couldn't be sorted out until the relegation issue was finalised. My first option was always to wait and find out what Dunfermline had to offer and I'm glad to be able to repay all they have done for me."

Morrison is the first out of Dunfermline's out of contract players to commit to the newly relegated club but he believes that there are better times ahead for the Pars - despite the recent heartache of dropping down a division.

The 23 year old Aberdonian is full of faith in Manager Stephen Kenny and is relishing the prospect of playing his part in a promotion bid as well as UEFA Cup campaign.

He continued:- "There are exciting times ahead for the club, even though we have been relegated. Next season could turn out to be a great season because hopefully we can get back to the SPL and have a good run in the UEFA Cup."
