Scott Wilson Post Celtic

Saturday, 16th Sep 2006

"1-0 is not demoralising, we can take confidence from this to take into the game on Wednesday. "

Scott agreed that the Celtic match saw a great defensive performance and really the deficit might have been greater at the break:-

"It could have but we held in. We were disappointed with the goal we gave away - it was just letting a guy in front of you at the front post. I think Bamba has just not switched on, the guy got across him and you cannot do that at this level."

Shunshuke Nakamura's 31st minute corner from the left saw Stephen McManus flatten Greg Shields as the Celtic defender squeezed a header in at the near post:-

"The two of them have put their hands up to say 'maybe we could have done a little better' but we have just to take it on the chin and move on. We are happy with our performance although we did not really create much but we limited Celtic. To be honest we have played the three best team's in Scotland in Celtic Rangers and Hearts and been narrowly beaten by them.

"People say if you come here and lose 5-0 you lose three points or come here and lose 1-0 you lose three points but it is not that. To come here and get beat 1-0 is not demoralising, we can take confidence from this to take into the game on Wednesday. If we had been beaten by five or six before going into the game on Wednesday it is a totally different ball game. Now we are ready for the game on Wednesday."

Scott Wilson at Celtic Park

Dunfermline restricted Celtic far more in the second half and played the game much further up the park:-

"We said they are getting tired lets go out and give it a go because they had played a game on Wednesday. They were a different team in the second half, maybe because we pushed forward. Going in 1-0 down and then looking up at the clock saying 80 minutes you think maybe we could sneak something here and get a draw but it wasn't to be."

How good is Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink?

"He was lively in the first half; similar to John Hartson - difficult, strong guy. He likes to play in behind you and he is good in the air. He had a hard game on Wednesday and he looked decent against the Manchester United guys so he must be a good player. He scored past them but he never scored past me!"

Next up are Rangers and the defence will yet again be important, Scott summed up:-

"The game on Wednesday will be totally different from the last game we played Rangers. We have added to the squad and we will be a stronger team than the last time but Rangers will be a stronger team now that Barry (Ferguson) is back."
