Sean stars at Somerset

Sean Murdoch's tenth shut out of the season ensured that his team progressed through to the Fourth Round of the William Hill Scottish Cup. The Pars keeper pulled off several crucial saves and was probably the team's Man of the Match. Sean reflected on the importance of a win in the most horrible weather conditions for a game of football.
"Ayr are on a good run and we always knew that it was going to be a difficult game. We dug in at it, the conditions were hard especially in the first half. We got a goal and defended well. Ayr are a good side, all credit to them but we came out on top today and thoroughly deserved the victory."
In his post match comments to the media, Ian McCall the Ayr United manager complimented Sean for two fantastic saves in the first half that prevented an equaliser, he commented:-
"It is always nice if the opposition manager is praising me, that is very kind of him. I did make some good saves but the team was excellent. We defended well in such difficult conditions and got the win that we came here for."
Describing how tough the nasty weather conditions had made things:-
"You have to be careful because the wind was so powerful. When it is like that you have to stand a little deeper in your goal. Crosses are difficult but we dealt with it. It was tricky, any goalkeeper would find it tricky in these conditions but I am happy with my performance."
With his team one up a keeper always wants a second goal to create a bit of a cushion and that had been discussed at half time revealed Sean:-
"We said that if we could get the second goal it would kill the game, I don't think they gained the momentum to get that second goal. It was a kind of scrappy game in the second half. They were going for the goal and we were just holding on for a little bit.
"All in all it was a 1-0 win and we are just happy to be through to the next round, that is all that matters. We are down here again in two weeks time so it gives us a psychological edge. If we can come back, do the same and get the victory to get closer to promotion.
"Ayr are a good side; they know their job. Ian McCall has got them set up well and they dig in. If I am being honest I feel that we are a better team, I am probably going to say that. Ayr are one of the most form teams in the UK; they will definitely threaten.
"We did not take them lightly and we know that it will be another difficult game in two weeks time, one that I am thoroughly looking forward to and I am sure that the squad are as well."
It was a joyous dressing room post match as the players showered and prepared to leave Somerset Park. Sean described the sentiments:-
"We always enjoy a win regardless of who we play. A win is a win and we celebrate that. I now fancy a Premier League team in the next round. Some of the boys were saying a lower league team and then progressing again. It would be good for the club money wise. Whoever we play we will set up again to get through the next round.
"I am looking forward to the draw and I am happy that we are in the next round."
