Lancashire lad pleased to end goal drought that extended for 33 months.

Simon Wiles celebrates first goal in Scotland

Simon Wiles found it hard to recall his last goal, he guessed for Blackpool at Barnsley but then when prompted remembered that it had been a Boxing Day goal in the 2-1 win at Port Vale back in 2005. He will probably still be smiling the next day after opening his account against SPL opposition.

"It has been a while since I scored so it was good to get the goal and get us through to the next round was brilliant. I really enjoyed it. I saw it came across and I thought I'm just going to whip it. I made sure it hit the crossbar and went in and not the other side of the bar. Thankfully it went in.

Goal Wiles

"The gaffer said just go on there and be positive full back and everything. As soon as I came on the first thing on my mind was to be direct and get balls in the box and I managed to sneak in a little goal tonight that I am very happy with.

"I spoke to a few of the lads and they talked about the difference between the bottom of the SPL and the top teams in the First Division, the gap is not that big but for the Premierleague side come here and us get the victory is absolutely brilliant. It will give real confidence to the lads to really crack on in the league.

"I just came here to play football. All footballers want to play week in week out. Kevin Harper has come in and done really well, he makes good competition for me whether playing on the left or on the right, so we will see how it goes.

Simon is looking forward to the draw for the next round favouring a draw that might take him to Celtic Park or Ibrox. Up until now the biggest crowd he has played in front of was 17,071 at the City Ground when Blackpool drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest.

"If we can get a lower team it gives us a chance to get through to the semi finals. For personally a draw against one of the big two would be an unbelievable experience. I have never played in a big game as one of those two would be."
