Striker back with first goals in over a year

- - Listen to Allan Smith`s post match comments

After just three first team starts in the whole of 2014, this season did not start any better for Allan Smith and he did not start a first team match until Jim Jefferies made wholesale changes to his starting eleven on 22nd November.

Highly pleased to score two goals against Ayr United, his first top level strikes since November last year., he told the website:-

"I am delighted with my first two goals of the season. I am just glad that I am playing again after having my tonsils out and back to my usual self. I feel a lot more explosive.

"Even though I got the two goals, it's the three points that count and I am happy about those."

Allan hit the net in 22 minutes and then again in 57th. He described how He got past Ayr United keeper David Hutton:-

"At the first goal the centre back played a slack pass back to the goalkeeper. He was in two minds to take a touch or not. He just shelled it off me and I had a simple tap in. They don't come much easier but it was all to do with my work rate.

"The second one the ball went out wide to Thommo and he just slipped me inside. It was easy enough to take a touch and just pick my spot. I could have missed but I never!"

The goals took the 20 year old's tally for the club to eight and for the first time at first team level he found himself on a hat trick. With confidence bursting Allan felt that could have happened:-

"I could have had a chance had Stirling slipped me in but he went for the shot." He was doubly pleased because Jim Jefferies was looking for a return to form from the striker who had scored a hat trick in the under 20s just a month ago against Dundee. He continued:-

"The manager was looking for the old Allan Smith so I am glad that he is back and obviously I hope he stays!"

With Michael Moffat not available since his wife was expecting to deliver their first child, Allan Smith and Gozie Ugwu led the line for the Pars on Saturday. The two paired up successfully against Stirling Albion just two weeks ago and that time it was the 21 year signing from Reading who stole the show with a hat trick.

Last Saturday at Stranraer Gozie was injured and Ryan Thomson was pushed up to partner Allan but having been successfully reunited with the Englishman, the Borderer hopes that they can continue to contribute goals together.

"He is a lot bigger than me, he just has a big presence. He just keeps the ball and I just run off him. It is a good partnership and I enjoy it. Hopefully we can take this into Tuesday and go on a run of games."
