Solving the stopper problem

Manager Allan Johnston has known David Hutton for some time now in fact he even played with him while the pair were at Queen of the South, he claimed that it was the keeper's "massive experience" that attracted him to the 30 year old:-
"We have a young back four and he just brings that wee bit of composure at the back. He is not the tallest but he is agile and you can see from the couple of games that he has played for us that he can make important saves at important times. He has shown and his ability speaks for itself."
David was not hugely overworked in the three pre season friendlies that he has played so far but has not conceded a goal and the manager stressed that good concentration levels is just the kind of quality that a keeper has to have:-
"When he has had to make the saves he has done. He is a good addition and hopefully we can bring in a few more players over the next week or two."
That will include another keeper so that there is competition for the starting place. The gaffer continued:-
"It will be up to both them to compete for the number one jersey, whoever is playing best will keep their place. Hutts is a great signing and he has done really well in the pre season games and now it is up to him to make sure that he stays in the team. We will be bringing in another keeper so it is up to him.
"It is about competition, it is the same for every position we need competition for places and hopefully that can spur us on to be really successful this year."
The manager revealed that his squad will be mixed up again for the closed door friendly on Wednesday against Queens Park:-
"We have a small squad and it is important that everybody plays a part on Wednesday night. It will be a tough test, Queens Park are always hard opponents especially at Lesser Hampden."
It will be an artificial surface like at Broxburn on Saturday. Johnston felt that the Albyn Park surface would have benefitted from some watering but was very happy that his side enjoyed the bulk of the possession and chances:-
"We looked like the team that would win it but we just have to finish them off."
