Stephen Simmons seeking goals

Results are not going for us but nobody is going to do us any favours. Others have done well to get results and we need to try

Dunfermline v Hearts

Stephen Simmons was the last Dunfermline player to score a goal, five matches back against Celtic on 10th December.  With two goals to his credit he remains the Pars second top goalscorer after Stevie Crawford.  Just as significantly he scored against Hearts on the opening day of the season. He discussed just how important it is for Dunfermline to get 2007 off on the right footing:-

"We cannot dwell on all the defeats were are having just now.  We have just got to get on with it and hopefully take three points from the next game.

"We deserved something from that first game of the season then we went to Tynecastle positive and got a draw. We thought we might have got the win but we never really paid attention to what Romanov said.

"You never know what team Hearts are going to put out, what team is going to turn up - something different is happening every week.  We have just got to concentrate on our own team and try and turn our season around and try and climb the league.

"We are trying the hardest we can, it is not for the lack of trying.  Everybody saw it in the Motherwell game; once you are down there you don't get anything for nothing.  You need to work hard and hopefully the breaks will go for you.

"I was sitting watching the game; wee Burchy hit the bar, we had one cleared off the line and they went up the park and scored. That is just the way it is, especially with other results going against you as well, you have to keep on going and hopefully results will turn for you."

Stephen is fully aware that he was the last Par to find the net and some 360 barren SPL minutes have followed:-

"Once you are not scoring you are not helping yourself. They will just not go in for us now.

"We didn't create a lot against Hibs but hopefully we can get one off somebody's ar** or something. It would be nice to take the lead for a change and see what we could do from there.  It is not for the lack of trying and hopefully we can get it on Tuesday.

"You try and concentrate on your own game but once your game is finished you look and see what is going on round about you but some of the results are unbelievable.  Motherwell drew with Celtic, St Mirren drew with Rangers on Saturday and Inverness beat Rangers the other night.  Results are not going for us but nobody is going to do us any favours. They have done well to get results and we need to try and do the same.

"There are a lot of games to play and a lot of points to play for. We have got all the teams around about us to play after the split as well, that will be good for us but it has to be back to scoring goals.  We need to keep it going and hopefully luck will turn for us.  We cannot give up!"
