U19s v Dundee

Sunday, 5th Oct 2008

Dundee Whitewashed by young Pars

DUNFERMINE 4 DUNDEE 0

Dundee were the visitors to unusually warm and sunny Fleet Ground on Sunday to take on Dunfermline in the U19 SFL League. Dunfermline were without the injured Harry McGregor and there were familiar faces in the opposition line up with two of last season`s Pars U19s Sandy Nairn and Kris Maxwell. While they might have enjoyed the weather they did not enjoy the better of the match.

Dunfermline went ahead in 13 minutes when Dundee trialist keeper sent his goal kick straight to Paul Willis and he lobbed the ball right back towards goal allowing Jordan WHITE to race on to the ball and net with a killer of a finish.

Rees Smith got two bites at a 16th minute free kick firing his first attempt at the wall and then sending the rebound wide. Willis sent a shot over the bar before Dundee produced their best chance of the game. A backheeler from Kris Maxwell put in Kevin Milne on the left side of the penalty box and his cross was only defended as far as Gary Casey but Craig Bauld in the Pars goal pulled off a fine save to send the well struck shot over his crossbar.

On 31 minutes Maxwell sent the ball across the face of Bauld`s goal but with no takers Smith cleared easily. Dundee paid for not taking the chances when Dunfermline scored two minutes later. A fine move involving four of the Pars younger players did the damage. Blair McWhirter swung the ball from right to left, Lewis Turner then lifted the ball through the Dundee six yard box and John MacDonald returned it for WHITE to net with yet another lethal finish from six yards.

It was going to be hard for the Dees to get back into the game but it became nigh on impossible when Milne was red carded in the final minute of the half for lashing out at Thomson. Coach Gordon Wallace gave his side a tongue lashing at the break and brought on Grant Manzio for Darren Gray.

Paul Willis v Dundee U19s

Four minutes into the second half the sub won a corner on the right and when Gary Bartlett sent it in, Kyle Benedictus`s header was well stopped by Bauld and Grant Ross sent the rebound over the bar from close in.

Half Time: Dunfermline 2 Dundee 0

Manzio had a chance that he sent wide left before John MacDONALD was set up by sub Lawrie Cannon and his 62nd minute shot from the right side of the box was assisted into the net with a deflection off Etchels.

Third goal
MacDonald, extreme right, starts to celebrate his goal

Maxwell had a pop at goal from 30 yards and sent the ball narrowly over the top while at the other end Cannon cleared the bar with his shot. In 77 minutes the trialist keeper denied White his hat trick with an outstretched leg but when he could only parry a Chris Lennon effort five minutes from the end, WHITE stepped in to net his third.

McWhirter was red carded for a last man tackle in 88 minutes after Ross`s through ball had sent Maxwell in on goal. The Dundee free kick was well defended with Benedictus hitting the wall and Dearden stepping in to blast the loose ball away from Manzio.
