DUNFERMLINE 5 EAST FIFE 2

With the exception of goalkeeper Aaron Sommerville, Dunfermline fielded the same eleven as trounced Elgin City 12-1 the previous Sunday and although the scoreline makes it look like another emphatic victory this was a match that the U19s won ugly.

East Fife started the better team and were desperately unlucky when Sommerville pulled off a fantastic save at the feet of trialist Jamie Devlin when the forward went through one on one on the Dunfermline keeper.  Full credit to Sommerville since his 18th minute bravery turned out to be one of those crucial moments in a match.  Dunfermline went back up the park and scored. Ryan Thomson released a fierce shot at an angle from the right and Andrew Collier could only parry the shot into the path of Steven LESLIE and he converted the easy chance to make it 1-0.

Jordan White then tested Collier before Leslie made good progress down the left to send over a fine cross that Connor SCHIAVONE rattled home from the far side of the six yard box.  East Fife had been kept out with a couple of good clearances .  Sommerville pulled off another good save from Devlin in 27 minutes and then two minutes later Ross Brown hit the corner of the crossbar and left post.  The 30 yard effort came back down on to Sommerville who scrambled the ball up.

A Schiavone corner from the right  in 31 minutes picked out Kerr YOUNG and his looping header dropped into the net off the crossbar.  The visitors got a goal back three minutes from the interval when a corner from the left was not properly cleared and Dale ALLAN tucked the ball away at the left goalpost. The half ended with a good Pars penalty claim being dismissed after Aitchinson flattened Schiavone inside the penalty box.

Half Time: Dunfermline 3 East Fife 1

Just three minutes into the second half East Fife reduced the deficit to just one goal. Michael Bissett drove the ball towards the far post and DEVLIN was unchallenged as he converted from close in.  From a position of dominance the young Pars had to work hard to re-take their grip of the match.

Collier saved a 25 yard attempt from Schiavone, Scott had a simlar shot but was on his wrong foot when he tried his 59th minute shot.  White turned and shot from outside the box in 65 minutes but the right upright saved East Fife.

Schiavone went on a soaring run in 74 minutes and was out of luck with a good effort that just escaped at the far post.  He next received a good pass from Byrne that he turned back for Young but Leslie was offside when the ball went through.

Young was forward again three minutes later and it was his pass that WHITE received and then fired into the East Fife net. Byrne and Thomson had further chances and sub Jordan Glennie sent an inviting ball through the box before in the final minute of regulation time Glennie set up LESLIE for the Pars fifth.
