Pars good run comes to abrupt halt

DUNFERMLINE 0 PARTICK THISTLE 2

Dunfermline were without Stuart Dearden and Paul Willis since they had made the journey to Dingwall with the first team. Regular keeper Craig Bald was ill so Danny Gunn got a start after weeks of warming the bench.

On a cold blustery Sunday it took a while for this U19 League fixture to thaw out. Lee Graham saw his eighth minute effort on a corner from the left fall narrowly wide of target.

The visitors forced a couple of corners before the Pars better possession forced a good chance from another corner for Jed Hiroz. In 20th minute the midfielder got a good connection but his shot was deflected wide.

Dunfermline continued to threaten with Jordan White on the end of a good move down the left to provide Ryan Thomson wiih a shot at goal but this time with keeper Grant Weir beaten the ball scraped of the outside of the left upright.

At the other end Danny Gunn tipped a net bound shot over the crossbar to keep the scoreline blank at the break.

Thistle had the advantage of the wind in the second half yet it remained fairly even until the Maryhill outfit made the breakthrough in 64 minutes. A corner from the left was met at the near post and amidst efforts from players on both sides the ball ended up in the net. It was a poor goal for the Pars to lose.

Hamish French made substitutions freshening up his strike force. Weir had a good save from Hiroz when the ball looked destined for the top left and Graham had another chance with a header inside the six yard box but again that was off target.

Three minutes from time with the Pars pressing for an equaliser Thistle won possession and a good long ball was crossed for their striker to bundle the ball into the net.

A disappointing result for the U19s since they had put together a good run but they looked a little rusty having had their match postponed the previous weekend. Maybe a wake up call for them but Hamish`s boys will just have to try and improve and not let drop the good standards that they have shown this season.
