Under 19s win with second half goals from Kris Maxwell and Stuart Dearden

Dunfermline U19s v Stirling

At least one Dunfermline team beat the weather to meet Stirling this weekend. The Under 19s registered a win on a soft ground at the Fleet Ground on Sunday lunchtime where the windy, blustery conditions made it hard for both teams.

The home side had the wind on their backs in the first 45 but it was 17th minute before Rees Smith created the first real chance. The left winger`s ball was turned back by Kris Maxwell at the far post but the defence nicked the ball away from Iain Williamson as he was about to cash in.

Next a soaring run from Williamson leaving four defenders in his wake ended with a block that rebounded to Charlie Bradshaw but his effort was blasted over the crossbar. Maxwell returned a cross from the right minutes later but Williamson`s header was tipped over the bar by keeper Daniel Cawley.

On the half hour Sandy Nairn put Williamson through but with the keeper rushing out to close him down his shot was fired over the top. Stuart Dearden was narrowly wide with a header on Smith`s corner and then Jed Hiroz won possession off a Stirling defender to put Williamson through again. The striker`s shot look destined for a spot on the left side of the net before Cawley pulled off a great recovery save to mean that it was all square as the sides changed ends.

Maybe the Pars should have hit the target in the first half and made the Stirling keeper work harder from the many shots that were fired. With the wind advantage coach, Hamish French admitted that maybe his side didn`t make the right choices of pass around the box and did not get enough shots on target.

Before Stirling had time to catch their breath in the second half however, a sweet string of passes from Williamson through Maxwell and Smith put Gary MacLachlan in on the left side of the penalty box. Lewis McKinlay made no doubt that the Pars midfielder was going to get around him and gave the referee an easy decision in awarding the 48th minute penalty. Kris MAXWELL stepped up to despatch the ball into the right side of the net while sending Cawley the wrong way.

There were appeals from the Stirling bench for a goal when Greg Paterson seemed to carry the ball over his line but Dunfermline were to increase their lead and effectively seal the result in 54th minute. Jed Hiroz from about 40 yards out sent in a nicely flighted free kick into the wind to pick out Stuart DEARDEN at the far post and he headed home number two.

In the second half Dunfermline defended well and restricted Stirling`s opportunities to take any advantage with the wind. The degree of comfort in the home side`s victory could possibly have been greater ,Williamson in particular had chances to increase the scoreline but there was to be no further success.
