Willie Gibson Post Ayr

Former Killie man hits double to quieten his friends from Ayr

Willie Gibson scores v Ayr United

Willie Gibson revealed that Jim McIntyre gave him a half time blast to get his act together or he'd be watching the bulk of the second half from the bench:-

"We got a roasting at half time because it wasn't good enough in the first half. Everything was too slow; we didn't move the ball quick enough and Ayr were well on top. After the half time rocket we came out, started well, took the game to Ayr and got the result we wanted."

The cross that Willie put in for Andy Kirk to open the scoring was a great relief to him because he described his first half as an absolute stinker:-

"The Manager is honest with you and tells you when it is not acceptable. I knew that it wasn't good enough and needed to lift it so it was a pleasure to put the ball in for Kirkie - give him a chance and he will score."

The Ayr United supporters had not forgotten Willie was a Kilmarnock player last season and gave him abuse throughout.

"It didn't spur me on in the first half, they certainly got on at me but it was good to strike back at them. They gave me good ammunition because in the first half I gave the ball away more than anyone else on the park. I was very slack in possession but had a much better second half.

Dunfermline v Ayr

"They were giving it to me tight so I thought I'd give them a wee bit back. The referee came and said 'that is enough' but I think I repaid them for the chants in the first half. Craig Samson said after the game that it was luck but we needed that bit of luck. The second goal gave us a wee lift to carry on and get another one; I'll take any goals that hit the back of the net deflection or not.

"We knew Ayr arrived off the back of a good result and knew that we were going to be in for a hard game but this was a big game for us and no matter about the performance - good or bad - we got the three points and that was the main thing."

After two goals against Ayr Willie was not willing to accept that he'd start on Tuesday at Ross County:-

"Nothing is taken for granted in the team, Joe (Cardle) has come on and done well. Davie (Graham) has been out for a long time but came back and did really well. It will be up to the Manager it pick the team on Tuesday; whatever he puts out, we will be happy and go up there to try and put on a good performance."
