Dunfermline Athletic

Wilson's not so magnificent seven

Monday, 15th Sep 2008

With a £50 fine for every yellow card, Scott is ultimately heading for greater costs in terms of suspension.

Scott Wilson and Jim McIntyre

Scott Wilson gave his reflections on the events in Dundee on Saturday:-

"I thought at the start of the game we were pretty poor in possession of the ball and Dundee came at us. We did ride our luck and then Calum got sent off. I don't think the referee saw too much of it - I think he sent Calum off without seeing the whole incident to be honest.

"Calum went into the tackle, a good tackle. He tried to get up, the guy was on his back. The guy gave as much to Calum when he was trying to get up. Then Calum reacted a wee bit but I don't think he clashed with the guy. The way I saw it he never hit the guy so when he went down like a ton of bricks like you would see in foreign games it was nonsense.

"Their bench seemed to think that Calum stuck the head in him. I don't know what the referee saw in it but he sent the laddie off for nothing. They should have got up, dusted themselves down and played on. It is too easy to send guys off."

Scott pointed out that with Calum Woods off the Pars were went obviously going to be up against it:-

"I have played in games for Dunfermline where we have lost goals in the last minute playing like that. Against Dundee everybody dug in and we will take the point. At the end of the day it feels like a victory considering we went down to ten men so early.

Scott Wilson v Dundee

The yellow card shown to Scott in 45th minute was his seventh in as many games:-

"It was for exactly what I have have just explained. I asked the ref what he sent Calum off for. I said I think you have sent the lad off and you have not seen the whole incident. You can't talk to them now. They get bad press but I think a lot of the time they bring it on themselves.

"Guys like Hugh Dallas you could talk to and they would explain themselves but nowadays they have reverted back to the old schoolboy mentality where you are not allowed to talk to the teacher like that. I wasn't using foul language or anything like that but that's me been booked seven games on the trot. I think that's a world record and only two have them have been tackles!"

The Pars captain certainly wasn't happy but regardless of where that might be ultimately heading in terms of suspension he joked about the cost of it all:-

"It is annoying because it is costing me £50 every time it happens. I feel as captain I have to question what the ref has seen. I could easily let it go but I think I have to come in at half time and at least explain that's why they have sent Calum off. Referees are not interested in talking to you now so maybe you should shut up."

At a cost now running at £350 Scott has not been revealing the consequences to his wife!
